Potty time with Logan

Logan turned 4 last December and very soon after, the pressure to get him potty trained quickly kicked in. while he is quite stubborn last month I got him to sit on the potty a few times a day with the promise of stickers and a toy at the end if the week. After almost 3 weeks of sitting on the potty but with no production he finally went "pee-pees." 2 days later he was running a fever and had a major ear infection....potty training went out the window. A few weeks ago I had to argue with him to get him to even sit down again. I would sit in the bathroom and read him books, sing songs, anything to keep him on the potty but he wasn't peeing at all. Last monday he finally went pee again. Tuesday he decided to wear underwear during the day(except naps and nighttime). He had no problem going pee on the potty..but no poopys. Today he decided he wanted to wear underwear to nap. He woke up dry, no problem. So we decided to give him a reward for being a big boy and not having any accidents in his underwear. It was a pirate ship he has had eye on for over a year now. I told him how proud I was of him and said his next step was to go poop on the potty. An hour later he went poop on the potty. To some this maybe be nothing to celebrate, but to him and me it is a huge accomplishment. And if you are a parent I'm sure you understand. It means he gets to wear super hero underwear all the time. He gets to go to school next year. And I don't have to change diapers anymore. I don't know how many parents read my blog but all I can say is if you are potty training a child or will be soon i have 4 pieces of advice. 1. Be patient- think you already are...multiply that by 10! 2. Keep trying you have to be very persistant. 3. Be positive! Even if they have an accident its important that you are positive. You don't want anything negative to affect your potty training! You could potentially scare your child if you act in a negative manner. And finally 4. Bribery works!- use whatever you can to get them to sit on the potty. stickers, toys, books, promises and even candy(though I feel that should be a last resort) trust me, it works. Logan sat down everyday because he knew if he did he would get a toy at the end of the week. and now look at him. Logan is rocking the super hero undies! Logan you're a rockstar! <3
