Harry Potter began for me after my sister and my best friend told me I needed to read the books. I opted to see the movie first and until seeing Prisoner of Azkaban I was fairly sure that Harry Potter was for children. I don't know exactly what it was about it, but I just felt it was childish. That was until I met the dementors, Remus Lupin and Sirius Black. After I saw that movie I feverishly read the books, and a hardcore Potter fan was born. I saw the rest of the movies at midnight premieres, waited in line until midnight for Half Blood Prince and held an all night reading party for the release of Deathly Hallows. I even made a list of predictions of how i thought the series would end, and who would live and die. Little did I know that these books and movies that I once felt were so childish, would help me grieve the passing of my twin sister in 2006. Harry Potter has given me a magical place to escape to when I need it. It has given me a new found love of books. It has also brought me many friends from around the world. There aren't a lot of books that can do all those things. It's hard to believe that 7 years later we are coming to an end. An end to era. Deathly Hallows part 2 is to be released in theaters July 15th at 12:01 am. While I cannot go to Florida to meet and hang out with the fellow fans and friends HP has brought me I will be spending it with one of the people who introduced me to it in 2004. My dear friend Crystal is stationed in Hawaii serving in the army. It is only fitting that I spend the end of Harry Potter with her since she was one of the ones who made it possible. But who is to say its the end? Hopefully the books will be passed down to other friends and family members and the story will live on. And I hope most of all that the special bond that has been made between us all will live on.......until the very end.
